Perilous Adventure

Dan Cole

Better late than never! Lots of big news this week, so let's start with that.

We've been terribly busy at the Professional Casual Network of podcasts and a new show it set to debut next week and to release on Thursday's opposite Big Fiction Energy. A Grim Podcast of Perilous Adventure will be the PCNs first Actual-Play podcast where we play Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP)! I am running the game and Dani, Tim, Alex, and JB will be our players. We've recorded three episodes so far, 'Session 0' in which we create characters, and episodes 1 and 2 playing the game. Everyone has had a blast so far, so I'm sure that'll come across in the recording. I can't wait to hear what the community thinks! Here's the podcast image to whet your appetites:

In other news, Tim and I have been working on our follow-up to the first The Space Between episode in which we discussed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake (out now). We're currently playing through the Final Fantasy 8 Remastered and will do an episode based on the events of the first disc of content. This game is a classic, and while FF fans are often torn on it, I love it and can't wait to argue with Tim!

There isn't much other news around here. So let's jump into some fiction!

I recently did some work on Hundred Dollar Heroes, re-writing some scenes to change the tone of a certain character. I submitted a few queries as well, but haven't heard back from anyone yet. I sent out a few in mid-March, just before stay-at-home orders rolled out. No idea if agents are able to check on queries or not during this time. Since it's all email, I imagine they can, but I'm not an agent, so don't really know. I'm going to throw out a few more soon, but with working from home and PCN taking up more and more time, I'll likely have to wait until next week when the almost-2-year-old returns to daycare. Then I'll actually have some time!

I'm going to do a challenge. I just decided. In college, a friend did a 100 words for 100 days challenge in which he wrote 100 words every day for 100 days. The words can be anything. A continuous story. Tiny vignettes. Anything. So I'm going to do this. What better time than in quarantine. I think I'll make a Google doc and paste into twitter. Obviously it'll take a few tweets per day, but sounds fun. Who's with me?

Here's the first one:

The needle dripped with a clear fluid. The hand clutching the syringe shook ever so slightly. A figure in a thick coat crept down a dark alley, eyes glued to two people chatting on the sidewalk. The figure wiped sweat from their forehead, more nervous than they thought they’d be. They checked the syringe again, making sure the needle was uncapped. It was. Time was up. Mutatis Mutandis would change the world, one person at a time.

The figure took a deep breath, steadying their hand. The next step took them within striking distance. The needle flashed in the light from the street and sunk deep into the unwitting person’s hamstring.

That's all for this installment, come back next Thursday for more updates and don't forget to listen to the Professional Casual Network of podcasts!
